When I was pregnant with our daughter Autumn, I searched and searched for something, ANYTHING to dress her in that was Firefighter-ish and yet still stylish. Having a husband who is a Firefighter is a big deal to most Firefighter wives, and I wanted our baby daughter to be able to brag about her daddy in style. An exhaustive search brought up nothing but a slew of baggy t-shirts that said “Firefighter Daughter”. Ugh, I don't think so! I don't wear baggy boyish t-shirts, and neither would my daughter. So on July 1, 2006, a week after our daughter's first birthday, my website Firedaughter Clothing, officially launched. I catered solely to the stylish daughters and wives of Firefighters, and while business started slowly, those who did manage to find me became fanatical about the concept and my products. It was those first loyal clients to whom I owe the eventual growth and prosperity of my company.
After a few months of being online, I started receiving emails from Police Officer wives, and they basically said “hey, what about us? Our daughters are proud too.” Not being a Police wife myself, I consulted with a few that I knew and came out with a separate line for the stylish daughters of Police Officers as well. So Firedaughter Clothing became ‘The Original Boutique for the Stylish Daughters of Firefighters & Police Officers'. That was exciting for me as a business owner and designer- that my business had grown past what I had originally thought it would be. Well, I hadn't seen anything yet!
In November 2007 I made my first non-Firefighter or Police design, for what was soon to become my third and largest line, Rich Kids by Firedaughter. To make a long story short, I had a loyal client named Shannon Miller, who is a Firefighter wife in San Diego. Shannon constantly challenged me with new, custom designs that she wanted made to give as gifts. It was because I never wanted to say “no” to Shannon that I realized I had a real gift for freehand Swarovski crystal designs, and that because of that, sky was the limit for what I could create. I no longer had any limitations as to what color crystals I could use, what designs I could make, whether I could customize names, numbers, anything at all…so now what was available at boutiques for 70 bucks, I could do more beautifully, more custom, just plain more FABULOUSLY, for much less money. I called my line Rich Kids not because you had to be rich to buy them, but because now almost any kid could afford to look like a rich kid. Since Rich Kids launched, I have been so blessed by amazing clients that I have been able to grow even more, adding items for stylish boys and mommy's as well, and as long as what I make continues to bring beauty and joy to my clients lives as well as my own, I don't think we've seen the last of what Firedaughter will become…
